Fortune magazine ranks San Antonio #1

San Antonio ranked number 1 with a median home price of $129,900 and a 2006-projected appreciation of 8.3% and 2007-projected appreciation of 7.0%. Fortune magazine ranks each area by its projected price change for 2006 and 2007 of the median home price. The median price is the statistical point where half of the homes sell for more and the other half sells for less.

Among five Texas metro areas in the top 25 of the rankings are: San Antonio (1), El Paso (3), Houston (9), McAllen-Mission (19), and Austin (21).

The great news is that San Antonio’s housing remains affordable. The National Realtor Association reports the average existing home sales price in the country is $207,300, while San Antonio is at $133,400.

The ranking can be found in Fortune magazine’s December 26, 2005 issue. (Vol 152 No. 13)
